Four Seasons On the Block

It promises to be a doozie of a sale, so big it will take three days to clear out the contents of Toronto’s Four Seasons Hotel. And just my luck, the thing I want most will be sold on the day I’m moving. Would you buy a used bed in this era of rampant bed bugs? I have to admit I’m toying with the idea since I discovered that some of those beds are by Hästens, a mattress I have coveted since the moment I discovered them. A friend who got a sneak peak at the sale over the weekend mentioned that some of the beds have never been used and are being sold in their original packaging. How dreamy.

There’s no telling, of course, how high bidding will go on these beds which retail for around $10,000. I may have to arrange for a proxy bidder. And yes, there’s plenty more going under the hammer than just bedroom furniture: flat screen TVs, top-of-the-line kitchen equipment, doors, paneling, Murano chandeliers and sconces, bars, fitness equipment, chairs, tables, lamps, you get the idea. The sale will be held at the hotel (60 Yorkville Avenue) May 31 – June 2 with previews happening May 29 and 30 from 9 am – 4 pm. I’ll be there.

I can’t tell which day the mattresses are selling – am I not reading the ad correctly?

  3. JC Says:

Hmmm, are you sure about the mattresses? As far as I know, they’ve been Sealy or Stearns Foster mattresses specially made for FS for years.

You’re right Julie, it’s not really clear which day the mattresses are going. And JC, it’s possible I’ve been given misinformation but my source was there in the building and Hastens are pretty hard to mistake. I’ll be at the first preview day and will report back.

I won’t go because I can not afford a thing right now but if you go please take lots of pics and show us what you get! Great opportunity. I’m pretty tempted by the kitchenware…
I don’t think I’d buy a hotel mattress even if it is Haastens. I fought a bed bug infestation in the UK years ago and let me tell you nothing is worth that mess. It’s really not joke. If you can get a new one, that’s another story completely…
    Happy bidding!

May I hang out with you at the preview too? When are you planning on going? please let me know how I can meet up with you.

    Thx – C

I stayed there last year and the bed was sooooo comfortable. Whatever brand it is, it’s worth bidding on.

The other furniture was fauxtiques — well made, but nothing special. (Though you’re the king of DIY, so you could probably do something with them).
