Do It Yourself Tray Table

When I’m thrifting, I always keep my eyes open for great table legs even if they’re attached to a piece-of-crap top. The legs below are a case in point: I found them at Value Village a few weeks ago attached to an Arborite top so crummy I balked at the $9.99 price tag. But the legs were awesome and I knew they’d be a great match for my daybed so I plunked down my tenner.

I intended to use the legs on another project but they weren’t quite tall enough so I decided to turn them into the little side table, above, with the addition of a brass tray I already owned. I reckoned I could affix the legs with epoxy but I wanted to make sure I’d be happy with the result so I did a test run with duct tape. Well, the tape did such a good job I’m going to leave it as is, that way it’s easy to undo if I decide to use the legs for a different project down the road.

It looks great. BTW if you are ever close to Bracebridge, when we cleaned out our old cottage last year and took stuff to the ReStore, there was literally a shelf of old legs. I wished I had grabbed four at the time, because I am thinking of trying to safely raise my couch height(so my Jack Russel can get his toys from underneath without me using a broom).
