Two competing Toronto-area auctions on March 23 mean that decor junkies will have to pick their poison, either authentic French antiques or fine and decorative arts including Asian art.

I’m happy to report that fledgling, downtown auctioneer A.H. Wilkens has made some impressive strides with its website and the offerings in the auction house’s upcoming decorative arts sale are nicely photographed with an expandable thumbnail gallery. The March 23 sale can be previewed Sunday from noon to 7 pm and Monday from 10 am to 7 pm; the auction gets underway at 7 pm Tuesday evening.

Further west, at Mississauga’s Oasis Convention Centre (1036 Lakeshore Road East) is the French Antique Auction beginning at 6 pm (preview from 4 – 6 pm). I’ve never been to one of this auctioneer’s sales but the website promises “NO reproductions, all shipped directly from France.” If Louis is your man (men?), then this is your sale.
