The online retail space is exploding with new players trying to grab a piece of the decorative arts market. New American entrants in the category include Weisshouse, Showplace, Craig Van Den Brulle and Decorati, to name just four.
In Canada, decorative arts junkie Troy Seidman has taken the plunge and launched Caviar 20, an online clearing house for his own 20th century finds. Seidman is still building his inventory but the pieces he’s displaying share a high taste level and reasonable prices in Canadian dollars. The porcelain, bamboo lamp, above left, is $160, the breathtaking oak gueridon is $325 and the Knoll Handkerchief chair, which would wake up any corner, is $325.
Seidman has a master’s degree in Arts Administration and he learned the high-end retail ropes at Todd Merrill in New York City. Caviar 20′s services include sourcing furniture, design consultation, appraisals and restoration/reupholstery projects. Seidman will also entertain consignments of fine 20th century pieces from private individuals. His intention is to do a pop-up store in Toronto before Christmas with the ultimate goal of a permanent retail home. In the meantime, sign up for the Caviar 20 monthly mailer.

My question – Why aren’t you doing the same?

LOL! Greg, well after my experience with the chrome Nienkamper tables and the black tripod lamp, which have both sold, I’m certainly considering it.

I was at Elliott and ward and they had these great Tortoise side tables for $800++ each. Beauties but KA-CHING!
