Growing Fresh Herbs at Home is Easier than You Imagined

If you love herbs and use them in your drinks or dishes at home, then why not grow one at home? It is cheaper and more satisfying to use, knowing that you’ve grown it by yourself.

1. Basil

You can use basil in dried form or fresh. It’s easy to buy and store dried basil, but fresh basil can go bad if you don’t use it right away.

To grow basil at home, you will need a pot and an all-purpose fertilizer. You can even keep the plant indoors but be sure to put it in an area where it has access to sunlight.

So, when your pesto craving kicks in, trim off those basil leaves that you have planted and use them. There is no need to rush to the grocery store to get them.

2. Mint

Mint is another good herb to grow at home. A lot of people grow spearmint because this is the most widely used mint herb for culinary purposes. It is used in dishes and even drinks.

In contrast with basil, if you want to grow this at home, be sure to keep it in an area where there’s not too much sunlight. This means an area indoors where it is mostly shaded, but still, has access to sunlight without directly facing it.

Note that it is better to grow mint in pots because it can be quite invasive. You will also need an all-purpose fertilizer and rich soil. Bear in mind to keep the soil moist as much as possible.
