When I first blogged about Furnish it With Vintage enthusiast Connie, she was new to the blogging world but an old hand at thrifting, a gal who knows her way around Goodwill, Salvation Army and Value Village. But that's the thing about decorating with thrift, once you overhaul a sofa you'd better love it 'cause it's yours for a good long while. Fortunately, Connie does love her teak-arm sofa set, now looking smart and comfortable in an updated neutral chenille.

It's ridiculously short notice, I know, but I only received the flyer yesterday for Waddington's Cobourg's bi-annual fine furniture auction. And let me tell you, there is some sweet stuff in this sale. Do you remember the post I did about designer Michael S. Smith and his masterful use of pairs? Well there are some very pretty pairs on offer, including the handsome tchotchkes above and the pair of side chairs below that once belonged to the late Robertson Davies [there are several items from the writer's estate in the sale].

Recent styleNorth convert Aleysa wrote to give me a head's up about her new blog the Listings List, a curatorial peak at Toronto's online classifieds. Like Take this Sofa and Montreal Digs, Aleysa scours the local classifieds -- in her case, Toronto -- for high style at low prices. Aleysa appears to have a pretty good eye and she isn't just looking at furnishings, she's even digging into car and bicycle listings. Give the Listings List a look. I also had a note from thrifting enthusiast Connie who has created a facebook page called Furnish it With Vintage dedicated her finds and transformations. Good luck ladies and keep the inspiration coming!

Cutting Edge Lighting, Affordable Prices

I've been wanting to blog about Toronto's Lampcage for years. Literally. A few years ago there was an outside contributor who pitched me on writing about Dean Lee's awesome, upcycling studio but the writer never followed through and I never got back to Parliament Street to do it myself. Until last weekend. Dean has been scavenging and buying lamp and lighting parts for nearly 20 years now, cobbling together sexy, Frankenstein creations that fit into just about every stylistic category from cutting edge to transitional to outright traditional.
