The Hunter With His Kill

Monday, April 18, 2016

Todd and I did not go to Cleveland last week in search of more Milo Baughman. But that's how things played out thanks to my man's keen eye. We were thrifting in the well-regarded but slightly junky Flower Child (11508 Clifton Blvd.) when we came across a stained, sagging sofa layered with cushions and clothes. Todd immediately recognized the arms and profile of the chrome frame as one of Baughman's popular designs for manufacturer Thayer Coggin. The hook was in.

If you've got wall space to fill I strongly encourage you to consider a ticket to Open Studio's annual fundraiser 1/Hundred Prints happening May 15 at Toronto's Palais Royale. Toronto (East) Tool Library Launch

Monday, November 4, 2013

The Toronto East Tool Library and Makerspace throws its doors open for a grand opening party Thursday night (1803 Danforth Ave, 8 - 11 pm, free). The Tool Library lets members borrow a dizzying array of electrical and hand tools for up to five days; it's a cost-efficient way ($50 per year membership) to access tools you only use once in awhile. This sounds like exactly what I need for those occasional reupholstery, cutting and refinishing projects you know I love to tackle. Join me, I'll be there.

Kelly Wearstler's jeans would be creamed. The custom marble table with the very special copper-finish base would be right at home in the design diva's latest book Rhapsody (2012). In my opinion, the table, currently in the window of Of Things Past Rosedale, is a showstopper, a heartbreaker, the kind of table you want to run away with, and never redecorate again. With its striking, composite marble top and its thin, beautiful bevel, the 50" x 46" top is a looker, that's for sure. The price? OTP wants $1,250.

I Needed a Jieldé

Sunday, August 18, 2013

To say I "needed" a Jeilde is ridiculous, even I know that. But when I saw the brass coloured Jeilde at the Holace Cluny close out sale (final reductions on now until August 28), I knew it would provide the jolt of contemporary my time warp MCM living room needs. But that was two weeks ago and it was only marked down 30 per cent, I chose to bide my time. Sure enough, on Saturday I popped in and the second last one in this size was being purchased, now marked down 50 per cent. I jumped at my chance to buy high for low and walked the lamp home. Cluny is reopening mid-September in Designer's Walk.
