I was impressed with Karen Johnston’s luxe, mosaicworks mirrors the first time I saw them at Toronto’s Elliott & Ward. Her glorious, hand-crafted pieces are big but never brash thanks to a sophisticated, mostly monochromatic palette. And then I saw her Bling Bling mirror at the Interior Design Show earlier this month. With Bling Bling (36” diameter, $1,750), Karen subversively repurposes hardware store materials like common nuts and plumbers chain and transforms them into something truly, stunningly beautiful! Now, I’m an unabashed fan.

Indian textiles are not for the faint of heart. If neutral is your mantra you’d do well to avoid Toronto's Little India, where colours are bold, bright and saturated.

Teensy, tiny Rosedale giftware and accessories shop AT has taken the plunge and expanded with a second location on Dupont Street, just around the corner from South Hill Home. The airy, new space has allowed partners Arminé Tatosian and Terese Sears to expand their retail focus to include more home furnishings and a wider variety of accessories.

Hello Dorothy Draper! The revered 1940-50s decorator had a passion for all things baroque and she would have swooned over these consoles at Toronto's Elliot & Ward (above left) and Chair Source (above right). But when I inquired after each piece, I got the same answer, "Not for sale." Apparently a bit of baroque adds just the right note of sophistication to the retail floor and neither dealer was willing to part with their hard-to-come-by showstoppers.

In response to my post about Christopher Guy look-alike chairs on 1stdibs.com, I heard from the designer himself on Friday; Guy writes: "The chairs shown by 1stdibs are originals, Christopher Guy Harrison originals! I created and obtained US and EU patents on the Chris-X legs in 2004.
