My first post about Of Things Past in Rosedale got a luke warm reception here, but whatever. The shop is on my block so I keep tabs on it and week after week after week there is something on the floor I adore, something priced just ever so slightly out of my reach; so I wait and debate only to see it snapped up and gone while my indecision simmers. Today these charming chests appeared in the window, so Dorthory Draper the grand dame herself might have designed them. She'd certainly snap them up if she were alive and had a client to cajole. Dear styleNorth, "A couple of years ago you posted about a reader selling Milo Baughman chairs on Craiglist. Well, I was fortunate enough to be the lucky buyer! They sat in storage or the corner of my place -- I rent a 680 sq ft. loft -- until a couple of months back when I finally had them reupholstered. The co-author of Design in Canada has turned her attention to master Canadian jewellers in this stunning new e-book, which includes over 220 photographs of remarkable, rarely seen jewellery created between 1950 and 2000. Volume I (of a two-volume series) profiles 25 master Canadian designers and ateliers, and includes photographs of jewellery that has won awards, been collected by museums, or designed for celebrities ranging from Princess Diana to Pope John II.

If the leggy little tray table, above right, looks familiar it's because I featured it as a quick and dirty DIY in October 2011. Too quick and too dirty as it turned out. My Red Green, duct-tape method for attaching the legs lasted a few days before it all fell apart. Then I tried epoxy, which held on for about a week. What I really needed was a circular piece of wood into which to screw the legs, and then attach the tray to the wood. This is where Michael Greenwood came in, kindly providing me with a perfectly-cut circle of 1/2" plywood.
