You don't have to be a DIY champ to know that a quick coat of paint can completely transform a piece of furniture. But spray painting can be frustrating if you don't do it right and this past weekend I learned a few tricks that I'm happy to pass along. My biggest discovery is the existence of custom spray nozzles, which utterly transform the process of do it yourself spray painting. See the wickedly smooth, slightly reflective top on the IKEA side table, below? There's no way I could have gotten such a professional looking result without the help of custom spray nozzles available for just 50¢ each at Curry's Art Store.

I deliberately delayed my post about my brass-slash-chrome coffee table until it was sold lest the buyer see my piece and balk at having paid a mark-up. Well, wouldn't you know it, the buyer turned out to be another Toronto-based decor blogger, Laura from Gracefully Searching. Laura has done a post about her fab new table (pictured above) and doesn't seem the least bit bothered by the fact that I made some money on my Craigslist flip. Or did I? The table took me about 6 hours to transform, which translates into a little over $18 per hour for my labour, considerably less than I make at my day job. Maybe I'm the one who should be upset.

Cini Boeri's Lunario table is one of my all-time favorites. Designed for Knoll in 1970, this table has to be seen to be truly appreciated, the scale is perfection! I almost spit up my coffee this morning when I found one on Craigslist priced at $450. The last time I saw a vintage Lunario it was at Toronto’s Navarro Gallery priced at $2,000. You know I would buy this myself if I wasn't already overrun with great coffee tables. Snap it up before a dealer does.

I love posting great finds and sales on styleNorth but your encouraging comments aside, it sometimes feel likes like I'm shouting into the wind. And then I hear from a reader like Rosanna who found exactly the dining chairs she was hunting for thanks to my post about Skypad. Well, maybe they weren't exactly what she had in mind, the avacado green leather and corduroy probably wouldn't have been anyone's first choice but by God, she's made them work. What I love about Rosanna is that she uses Craigslist, Kijiji, blogs and Google to hunt down not just what she's after but the cheapest possible version of what she's after.
