Heads Up: ACAD Spring Show and Sale

The Alberta College of Art and Design is holding its 20th annual Spring Show and Sale beginning Thursday (March 19 - 21) right here in Calgary. This is an amazing opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind works by ACAD students. There will be literally hundreds of pieces of art for sale including glass work, painting, jewelry, printmaking, sculpture, and more.

Shops: Leo’s Second Hand Store, Calgary

As I was strolling through Inglewood (9th Ave SE) on Saturday, I came upon Leo's Second Hand Store (1225B 9th Ave SE). I came close to cruising on by...had Leo not placed such a large sign that read "Large Discounts" in his front window. How could any thrifty decorator resist that? To the non-junker, Leo's will seem like complete chaos. Be prepared to dig, move things around and open cupboards and doors, as you just never know what you'll find.

Strolls: Kensington Village, Calgary

Located at the junction of 10th Street NW and Kensington Road, and right across the Bow River from downtown Calgary, Kensington Village is home to many shops, restaurants, bakeries, bars, coffee shops and gallaries. In Kensington you'll find a fantastic mix from cheap and chic to high end design, which makes it a favorite shopping destination for everyone from stylish students to established designers.

Strolls: Design District, Calgary

The Calgary Design District was an obvious choice for our first stroll through this western boomtown. About seven years ago the area of downtown between 10th Ave and 12th Ave and 4th Street to 14th Street was re-branded as the Design District. This quadrant is now home to dozens of home decor and furniture stores, ranging from high design to vintage/antique. And in case you find yourself totally exhausted from the shopping options, the Design District is also home to several good restaurants, bakeries, spas and wine shops (which just happen to allow you to sample as you shop!).
