This is the worst photograph I've ever run on styleNorth, please forgive me. But I'm so thoroughly captivated by the beauty and mystery of this gargantuan and richly embellished brass chest that I just have to post about it. The chest is about 4' tall, nearly as deep and at least 5' wide; it stands in the window (hence the glare) of a would-be antiques shop at 3045 Dundas Street West in Toronto's Junction neighbourhood. I say would-be antiques shop because in five years of spending time on this strip I have never, ever seen the place open -- mornings, afternoons, weekends, weekdays, never open. Consequently, I have no idea what the chest would cost even if it could be purchased.

On my first mini house tour of Kevin's apartment I couldn't shoot the living room which had become a kind of dumping ground, albeit for fabulous furnishings and objects. As promised, here's a little survey of the newest entrants on Toronto's high-end decor strip along Yonge Street between Rosedale and Summerhill subway stations. On sale for $850, this console in the window of Toronto's Decorum Decorative Finds is exactly the kind of modern-meets-exotica that makes my pulse race. If my living situation weren't so up-in-the-air I'd have brought the piece home with me yesterday. Instead, some other lucky soul will build a magazine-worthy vignette around it -- I trust they'll cherish it as I would.

Mike moved out on Saturday leaving me with what felt like a nearly empty apartment. Of course, it wasn't empty at all, it had been stuffed to the gills before the movers arrived. Fortunately, my dear friends Nicola and Victor dropped in Sunday bearing breakfast and flowers and even more importantly, muscle. I needed help moving the bird's eye maple credenza out of the office and into the living room where it ably filled the vacuum left by the dearly departed Louis XV settee. The room isn't functional at all without a sofa but by God, it looks good.
