I'm not one to change up my decor with the seasons but I make an exception with bedding: warmer temps call for lighter blankets and so I've recently switched up my heavier duvet cover for a light-weight, cotton jacquard that I purchased in India. Jacquard patterns are loomed rather than printed so the image is reversed on the underside. In this case I believe the orange (above right) is the top side but I prefer the taupe-y reverse, which goes better with the wall colour, Farrow & Ball's Dauphin.

The sale signage caught my attention and when I looked in the window and saw the blue leopard print from Frette, well, I knew I was back to blogging. Charming sales rep Hema explained that this is a new pattern for Frette, makers of some of the world's finest bedding. The shop, Palais Royale House & Home also carries Yves Delorme, Sferra and the divine Pratesi. Bedding is one area I encourage splurge. I would rather have one fantastic set that gets washed and put right back on the bed than a linen closet full of poor quality sheets.

I haven't covered a product launch in a long, long time but yesterday's introduction to Canada of Dormeo Octaspring mattresses from Belgium was right up my alley. Truth be told, I have a "thing" for mattresses: some people dream about owning a Porche or a Ferrari, I dream about owning a Hästens. But this post isn't about Hästens, it's about Octaspring and their revolutionary mattresses which combine memory foam with a patented foam spring technology that provides support and comfort while letting the mattress breathe. Available exclusively at Sleep Country Canada, Octaspring mattresses come in varying thicknesses priced from $2,800 to $4,200. Certainly not cheap but still less than half the price of my most coveted sleep platform.

It promises to be a doozie of a sale, so big it will take three days to clear out the contents of Toronto's Four Seasons Hotel. And just my luck, the thing I want most will be sold on the day I'm moving. Would you buy a used bed in this era of rampant bed bugs? I have to admit I'm toying with the idea since I discovered that those beds are by Hästens, a mattress I have coveted since the moment I discovered them. A friend who got a sneak peak at the sale over the weekend mentioned that some of the beds have never been used and are being sold in their original packaging. How dreamy.

When Cilque asked me to give their sheets a try I was keen. I'd actually been on the lookout for a quality sheet set in ivory to go with my crewel bedspread; it so happens that Cilque's creme brulee colour is a perfect match. And although the sheets are cool on the skin, everything I've read about silk's thermal properties suggests they'll be cozy and warm in the winter, too. Silk is nature's strongest natural fiber and these well-made sheets, consisting of 19 momme weight Chinese silk, are machine washable, although they must be hung to dry after a short tumble on low heat. The only caveat I'll put forward is that Cilque sheets are so, well, silky, that it's hard to keep them tucked in; the bedspread wants to slide right off and the top sheet likes to glide out from beneath the mattress. But it's a small price to pay for cool comfort on a warm summer night.
