I've been wanting to blog, I really have, but gosh darn it, life just keeps getting in the way. The photo above is me working on the chair I've been re-upholstering Saturday mornings; somehow the class consistently eats most of the day and then I'm left with only Sunday — a day previously reserved for blogging — to catch up on ALL the other things that need to be done. What's more, I'm working with a new decorating client on an exciting project and doing some paid outside writing. Oh, and then there's been the little issue of finding a new place to live. So forgive me, dear readers, for my absence. I've got half a dozen styleNorth posts in the can just waiting for me to pull together and as soon as I find a little time I'll be all yours once again, I promise!

Flipping through the latest issue of online decor mag, Lonny, I was immediately struck by the preponderance of simple cube tables. Clearly the design and variations on the theme are having a moment. Nesting cubes show up elsewhere, a solution I myself recently recommended to a client whose combination living/dining space I'm helping to make over. For my client, the chrome nesting tables were a cost-effective solution that meant we didn't have to buy side tables AND a coffee table. I hope to be revealing the finished space soon -- just waiting on a few errant pieces and the draperies, stay tuned . . .

The photos don't do these rugs justice; they are much more beautiful in their 6' x 9' glory than these digital snapshots suggest. Still, I admit I find the concept somewhat dubious, like paying extra for distressed leather or denim. But what do I know? These carpets are piping hot following a very successful launch in January at Domotex, the world's largest rug fair in Hanover, Germany. The carpets shown are presently hanging in the window of chic Toronto rug boutique, Modern Weave; I spotted rugs from the same line in a recent ABC Carpet ad.

Welcome to 2010! And what better way to start a new year than to pack all yourworldly possessions into boxes and cart them across the city to a brand new address. Mike and I are ushering in the lunar Year of the Tiger by moving house, which means there will be lots of decorating in our future. We're already hard at it actually, having made a couple of big-impact purchases that I'm dying to unveil.

This post may be harder for you to read than it is for me to write because after 18-months of working seven days a week, I've come to terms with my decision to step away from styleNorth, if not permanently. The blog will live on but with much less frequency; I'll post once or twice a week, maybe only once or twice a month. After 480 posts, I'm sorry to say that I'm out of gas. Please subscribe so that you'll be notified when new posts go up, that way you don't have to keep checking back, being disappointed.
