Wake Up Your Creativity with Karen

At the Interior Design Show last month I caught up with my friend, the supremely talented Karen Johnston (Mosaicworks). She’ll be in Toronto this coming weekend to give a mosaic workshop at Artscape Youngplace (180 Shaw Street, Rm 107). The class runs Saturday (10 – 3:30 pm) and Sunday (10 –  12 pm) for $130 (cost includes supplies and use of tools but not lunch, there’s a great little cafe on site). So if you’ve been itching to get crafty this is a great opportunity to wake up your creativity. Karen employs anything and everything in her work from common pencils to plumbers chain, glass and tile; surf through her website to get inspired.

How nice to see you promoting Karen’s work, again! We used to carry her pieces at the former Elliott & Ward and she shone! Very talented!

So you mean to say that that Queen of Hearts is really a mosaic? At first I thought it was just a print. That’s just beautiful. I’m afraid the time of the class has passed but I will definitely check out Karen’s website for my inspiration. Thanks for the link:)

Yes Victoria, the Queen of Hearts with the Mona Lisa Smile is an original mosaic by Karen, I believe it’s the largest one she’s ever created. It is magnificent! Karen informs she will be doing more workshops compressed into a single day, which I think will be better for everyone.

So brilliant! I love the Queen of Hearts :) I would totally pay 130 for the experience and knowledge gained, not to mention the end result!
