The Star in a Star’s Condo

Drake was in the news last week when media outlets jumped on the fact that the Canadian hip hop star’s Yorkville condo is on the market for $4.2 million. Naturally, the listing features photos of the 3,600 square foot unit at 1 St. Thomas and it is not a triumph of great taste, at least not in my opinion. As one astute commenter on BlogTO wrote, “Looks like someone went to Restoration Hardware and said, ‘Give me one of everything.’ ”

The one thing canopy chair quarterbacks agreed on was that Drake’s map of Canada bookshelf is the coolest. Dying to know how much such a thing might cost, I tracked the piece down: available from Toronto’s Prototype Design Lab, the Canada Shelf retails for $18,500, plus $100 delivery charge (installation not included). Yes, for the the price of a decent used car, you can have your very own symbol of true patriot love.

As for Drake’s condo, the 22nd floor unit is accessed via private elevator, naturally, and features 3,600 square feet with 2 + 1 bedrooms and three baths, the monthly maintenance fees are $3,300 and the property taxes are assessed at $33,308. I guess with those kinds of charges, Drizzy can afford a $20,000 bookshelf, why not?

Should look more impressive than it does. It just looks like a place to crash.

I saw this listing before on MLS. I didn’t know whose condo it was. Terrible… you think he would have hired a designer… If he did hire one, even worse!

Money doesn’t equal good taste and who cares really. If he was comfortable and happy walking around in his underwear here – why not. Although my condo is much more fashionable and I am not famous or wealthy it is still a very comfortable place to call home. That is all that matters.

Buy a used car for the price of the bookshelf, you say! Hell, I could buy a NEW car for that!

nah. just no. nope. Chris, that man really needed your help. I wonder if he’s moving to the penthouse. You need to reach out to his people. Now that’s a Style North reveal I’d love to see. I know you’d kill it.
