While it’s not exactly decorating, I’m happy to give a plug to the Pyrex Collective‘s clearout sale at the Rosedale Valley Antiques Market at Toronto’s Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue) this Sunday (August 19) from 9 am – 5 pm. StyleNorth reader Lynn wrote to ask for help promoting the sale saying, “we are in danger of becoming hoarders if we don’t start to pare down our collections.”
Until I heard from Lynn I wasn’t aware of the deep, abiding love some ladies have for their vintage Pyrex. In the Toronto area alone there are so many collectors that the Pyrex Collective had to start a second blog to make room for everyone.
Pyrex is still in business today but it’s the vintage stuff that really gets these gals going. The brand was introduced in 1915 by Corning and its homespun colours and patterns are the very stuff of nostalgia. The weekend sale is a great excuse to check in with the Rosedale Valley market, which I gather has been humming this season.

Being a yellow ware guy myself I don’t have any pyrex, but it sure is popular. It always sells well at auctions and estate sales around here.

Pyrex appeals only “ladies” and “gals”?

you’re absolutely right, Huey! But as with decor blogs, so with Pyrex, the VAST majority of enthusiasts are women. There are exceptions of course, and I’m proud to be one of them.

Pyrex – once the backbone of many a bridal shower! I’ll admit to returning several duplicate sets after the fact but hey, like Lin says, who knew?
With today’s armory of anti- aging miracles like Botox and Juvederm, telling a woman’s age may not be as easy but for the vintage Pyrex stash in the pantry.
