Some of the more design-focused retailers in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood have banded together and are hosting the Junction Design Crawl this Friday evening (August 24) from 7 – 11 pm. White lights will be strung outside participating shops which include SMASH, Mason, Russet & Empire, ARTiculations, Mjölk, Opticianado, Phillipa C. Photography and Narwhal. Other local faves like Williams (358 Keele Street) are likely to stay open late to take advantage of the traffic and interest. I’ve been wanting to feature the gorgeous, 1940s Shaw-Walker chairs, above, at SMASH ($400 each) and this event gave me the perfect opportunity. See you in the Junction!

One of the reasons I keep coming back to this blog is the great quality photographs. This image is beautifully composed. Kudos.

Oh man, my dad once had similar chairs and several SW wooden file cabinets in his real estate office on Queen E. He ditched them in the late 60′s when teak fever hit the beaches. I think there may one of the cabs in his garage still.
Are you leading a guided tour Chris?

Good evening I went to the designer crawl. Interesting, inspiring, and took lots of pictures. Always like to go back and see what I actually saw. Families, fashion crowd and street grunge…Lois of cool

Thanks for the feedback Lois; I had dinner guests and couldn’t make it out but I got a similar report yesterday from an acquaintance who said the strip was buzzing and yes, very cool crowd. Sorry I missed it.
