Apartment Hunting

The bad news is I have to move again. Noise issues at my current address are driving me mad. After two moves last year, there’s nothing I’d like more than to stay put but an already bad situation is getting worse. It’s time to go.

Finding something decent won’t be easy. Toronto’s rental market is tightening up. The scene above greeted me this morning when I went to view a main floor 1 bedroom in a triplex facing Trinity Bellwoods Park. It’s my dream location but judging by the online pics the unit was nothing special — laminate floors, tiny kitchen, limited storage — and it was priced at the top of my budget at $1,385. Still, there were a dozen hopefuls milling on the sidewalk waiting for a turn to suck up to their possible future landlord. I was so put off I didn’t join the queue. Depressing.

Maybe one of you can help. I’m looking for a quiet 1 bedroom apartment downtown, in the Annex or Dundas/Queen West. I’d like to hold my rent to around $1,200 – $1,300 but I’m willing to go a little higher for the right place. I’m clean, quiet and respectful with no pets and I don’t smoke or play loud music. I have a good, stable job and excellent references. Please help if you can! Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that you must move. I have not moved in 21 years and when I bought this house I only intented to live here for well maybe 3 years… how things never turn out how one intends them to. Best of luck!!! Oh yes, wish I could help you, but we do not live in Toronto so any rentals here would mean a good 3 hour drive. I am sure that is out of the question…hahaha.

I had no idea the rental market there was like that. I’d be put off by a line on the sidewalk as well. Fingers crossed for you.
