Further to yesterday’s post about megatrends, I opened the October 2011 Elle Décor and was hit in the face by page after page featuring hot colour contender, teal. On the cover (above, photo by Simon Upton) is a striking lamp and vase in shades of teal and in the first spray of ad pages comes shot after shot highlighting this favourite 1980s jewel tone.
Minotti features a large teal ottoman and cushion, above left, while Kravet struts its teal offerings, and Scavolini throws the hue up on cabinetry. Teal is a friendly mix of blue and green and is huge in fashion this fall so naturally enough we’re seeing it in interiors, too.
Perhaps I’m especially aware of teal because I’ve just finished a project featuring a striking pair of vintage, hand-painted Frederick Cooper lamps in a ravishing shade of blue/green. Click back tomorrow to see the rest of the completed space.

One of my favourite shades. My main living room wall is currently painted teal (more on the blue side, though) and I have yet to fall out of love with it. It’s such a great color…bold but muted at the same time. Perfect for an adventurous decorating with pops of fuschia, orange, or bright yellow but just as perfect for something more subtle like beiges and whites.

We’re working on a model home right now and we did a feature wall in the master bedroom in teal, with the other three walls in dark grey. Very glamorous!

Ooooh, a teal wall! – I painted my stairs teal a couple of years ago. And have a favorite teal lamp that was a B.D. gift. Nice to know I’m so on trend ;)
