It was probably inevitable, especially after Canadian Tire got into the game: this week’s Costco flyer features none other than an Eames Lounger knock-off, here called the Soho armchair and ottoman, only $989.99 (after the $150 coupon discount). Does anyone still covet the real thing after seeing this classic brought so low? Two pics to the left of the Eames wannabe is something called the Trevi Chair and barstool collection, a set of Kartell Ghost Chair send-ups priced almost as high as the originals (Costco armchair $329, Kartell armchair $451). I’d rather pay the premium for the real deal. What really made me laugh though was the iComfort Massage Chair ($3,499.99) dubbed a “hot buy”; more like a hot mess if you ask me. Who would want this in their living room?

Ew. Looking at all the knock offs from Costco makes me dirty inside. I can imagine suburban families thinking they have found style. I own three authentic ghost chairs and I love them but the knockoffs everywhere are gross-I was just in Urban Barn where I also spotted them. However, they are obviously modern classics because there are also a million Saarinen knockoffs in every desigin stores I enter and I still love that design!

I love me some Costco, but for discounted liquor and razor blades and televisions only.

Careful David, liquor and razor blades can be a dangerous combination!

I would think the $299 massage table and $3200 worth of masseuse services would be the smarter investment.

Yay, Raina. Couldn’t agree more!

You just made me laugh. The icomfort is just one big fat leather (?) disaster. And I agree – I’d rather pay for the real Kartell than the Costco version.
