Stylish TV Stands

I don’t own a flat screen TV but if I did I would definitely mount it on an easel à la Vincente Wolf (above left, courtesy Metropolitan Home) and Newell Turner (above right, courtesy House Beautiful).

My easel would not come from an art supply store, however. I’ve got my eye on a pair of stunners a heck of a lot more luxe than anything you’ll find at Currys or Gwartzman’s.

My first choice, above left ($425), is at Toronto’s Decorum Decorative Finds (1210 Yonge Street, 416.966.6829). It’s so sleek and chic it would almost be criminal to cover it up. My second fave, above right, at Toronto’s Machine Age Modern ($495) is in chrome with brass details; a little more traditional in terms of styling but still miles better than the chunky wood pieces used by Wolf and Newell.

There’s a lot of crap on TV but your TV stand shouldn’t be crappy.

    What a superb idea!

I would be wary of putting a decent-sized HDTV on either of these. Even though the new TVs are flat, they are still rather heavy, which why (in part) Wolf and Turner have used heavier stands (theirs are 46″ screens at least!). I would not put anything bigger that a 22″ screen on the beautiful ones you have suggested — for weight considerations as well as not covering up too much of it.

    Cheers, Mike

I’ve loved this idea since I saw it at Grange – they’ve got a beautiful $2000 stand that had drawers too for assorted media equipment. These are much more afordable but like the others I do worry about sturdiness

Good morning, I saw a Craig’s List ad for a television that had dropped from a wall mount, so whatever you use caution is suggested.
I am an artist the heavier one pictures in the first picture would be perfect for my flat screen *a bonus the easel is a work of art*…Lois of always nice to see your smiling face Chris
I’m selling the house and please note I’m taking Chris’s idea of having the numbers peel and stick affixed to my transom by the company that StyleNorth suggested Thank you CHRIS *can you tell I’m a fan* :)

I love the concept, but I doubt it would look quite so polished once I hooked up the 10 different cords to the back of it…

Mike, you may be right, particularly about the sexy but potentially delicate brass one. I think the rough and ready chrome one might be up for it though.
Lois, your comment made me laugh — is the Craigslist seller trying to sell the damaged TV??? When is your open house? I’d love to see what you’ve done with the place, not to mention finally meet you in person!

wonderful idea! Might solve my whole problem of not having enough space in my bookcase where my very old tv now lives.

I love that Jane will make her own! These are great ideas and I adore the one Matt showed us. How clever this all is making those gorgeous TVs works of art. Chris the blog has taken on a different tone. Everyone is so happy when you post we all want to talk talk. It’s great.
