This morning, Apartment Therapy is asking readers whether they hand pick the end books on open shelves. I couldn’t resist taking the bait because this is something I carefully consider. I could select titles that tell visitors what refined or adventurous tastes I have, but instead I choose based on colour and pattern. This shelf stands beside a cockpen chair so I’ve referenced the fretwork with the book jackets and even the reticulated ceramics.
Art deco, David Hicks, Kelly Wearstler and Qing Dynasty furniture design — the only thing they have in common is the fretwork. The fact that the Hicks book is orange and pink is an added bonus.
Taking AT’s lead, I put the question to you: Do hand pick your books? And if so, what are your choices based upon?
