Splurge: Luggage-Style Case Pieces

Splurge

I was completely brought down when I got home and discovered that dozens of Montreal images were missing from my camera’s memory card. It was the second time it had happened in a week, D’oh! Maison & Objet, a swish, modern furnishings store on Boulevard St-Laurent, is carrying an English line of luggage-style case pieces that got Mike and I pretty excited. There are chests, consoles, side tables (in black steel, OMG!), even a desk in mock-croc. Toronto designer Timothy Mather used a similar, mirrored chest in his room at the JLT Showhouse this year. The pieces are pricey — in the $3,000 – $5,000 range — but it’s a lot of look and a real conversation starter.

If you’ve seen these in Toronto or anywhere else in Canada, please drop me a line and let me know where.

Thanks for the links Condocreature! Wow, those look like the same trunks, albeit smaller. They look especially great in black steel, “very chic” as Maison & Objet owner Anne-Marie said.

black steel?? hmmmm I need to see that! would it go well with black lacquered furniture?

I do think they all come from the same manufacturer….they all look too much the same….

Maybe keeping an eye out for old LV trunk lugagge and stacking them would be a better buy…. time to canvas garage sales!!

    Hi Chris,

I saw these at HomeSense! I only saw the trunks though. They were probably not the same quality as the ones shown above but for the price of 239-299 can not be beat!

I saw them at the Oakville on Trafalgar Road.

    Cheers!

    Dear Style North,
I carry these beautiful trunk chests. I need to check my price list and could email you tomorrow, but had to respond tonight just to let you know that I carry them, in case you’re still looking.
Or you can email me at nber@randomhouse.com

    All best wishes,
