Montreal’s Boulevard St-Laurent is called “the Main” by residents because it divides the city into east and west. It’s a busy shopping drag, home to restaurants and retailers of all stripes, particularly modern furnishing stores. I could have blogged about nothing but St-Laurent shops this week and I might have had my camera cooperated. One store I was able to capture before technical difficulties set in was Ohm Mobilier, a Zen oasis amid the bustle.
I was especially intrigued by Ohm’s branch “collection” of lamps, mirrors and room dividers. Constructed from bleached, natural branches, the pieces take “organic” design to its logical conclusion. The floor lamp, above left ($700), was my favorite piece and made for an eye-catching window display; the smaller table lamp beside it is priced at $340 and the denser, more sculptural table lamp, above centre, is $495. The room divider, above right, is $870 and the twisty chandelier above it retails for $720.
I also loved the sea urchin-like pendant lamp, above ($375); a light bulb problem prevented me from seeing it illuminated and my guess is I’d have loved it even more lit.
