Decorating should be fun, which is one reason I resist the temptation to go all Martha Stewart on you, dear readers. I know most of your homes aren’t “done” yet and neither is ours; we peck away, changing things up a little or a lot as our moods and wallets allow. But a recent rash of brass polishing at our house made me suddenly aware of details that have gone overlooked for years.
Who pays attention to the brass feet on your coffee table? Nobody. And the reason for that is because they’re so tarnished and dull. Shine those puppies up and suddenly they’re a beautiful detail, jewellery peaking out from that luscious, cream flokati, glinting in the sun.
I’ll bet the finials on your lamps are in the same sorry state. It took about a minute and a bit of Brasso to bring these babies back to life. It’s a little thing, but it’s a good thing.
