Roots Home, an offshoot of the Canadian clothing company, has been producing furnishings, with a focus on leather chairs and sofas, since 1998. I dropped into the retailer’s Castlefield showroom yesterday scouting for Canada Day items and I was not disappointed, especially by their soft furnishings, which unabashedly celebrate the Canadian affection for the great outdoors.
The hand-embroidered cushion above, featuring Canadian icons and landmarks, is just superb. When you see the amount of work involved you couldn’t possibly balk at the $220 price tag. The retailer has a series of smaller sofa pillows ($78) with hooked rug designs on one side and cloth on the back.
Roots also does a really terrific line of doormats and runners almost too good for the floor . . .
The 100 per cent-wool, hooked rugs are made in India and could easily be displayed as wall hangings. The 2′ x 3′ doormat is priced at $98 and the 6′ x 3′ area rugs/runners are $285. Welcome to the Cabin, indeed!

Have a Canadian friend living in Amsterdam and wanted to send a special gift for her 40th b-day. Thanks guys for this posting! The pillow is perfect for this occasion. We actually might buy another to send to Athens as a thank you for the wonderful hospitality of another pair of expats.
While the item is not made in Canada, it is the cutest!, the colours are gorgeous, and it is beautifully embroidered. The pillow itself if fluffy and you just want to hug it!
FYI – The price however has increased by $10-$15 since the styleNorth post. Just so you know! Don’t be surprised. Actually the sales person went to get one from the back for me. The price hadn’t been adjusted on the actual item and she honoured what was on the ticket which was $225.
Thanks again for the great gift idea. LP

Thanks for the update LP. It is ALWAYS a thrill to hear that a styleNorth post has a brought a product to a reader’s attention that they otherwise wouldn’t have been aware of. These pillows aren’t “cheap” but the quality is exemplary and I’m really glad to see that you appreciate the “value”. I’m sure your friends will, too.
Thanks again for sharing your experience!
