Mike and I finally made it to Toronto’s new Anthropologie on Saturday and one of the things that stood out was the tableware, not because it was so fabulous but because it was so expensive. The Anthropologie bowl, above left, is pretty enough but at $14, it’s more than twice the price of comparable items at Tap Phong restaurant supply on Spadina Avenue. The Tap Phong bowl, above right, retails for just $5.99; both are made in Japan.
Naturally, we toured the Shops at Don Mills while we were there and we had an especially good laugh at mcewan, chef Mark McEwan’s new prepared and packaged food store. Tuna steaks were selling for $29.95 per pound, a price so high it made my eyes water. All I can say is that this is a “mall” for people with too much money. Recession? What recession?

If I’m buying tuna steaks at 30 a pound they’re going to need to give me super powers or something =)
Hey, should you need it, the website for our auction company here is http://www.kcauctionco.com. And should you feel the urge to bid, there’s a link to tomorrow night’s auction catalog on Proxibid where you can register and see all the lots.

David thanks for the url. I spent an enjoyable half hour skimming through the offerings. Fell in love with the unsigned sculpture that looks like a man stretching and the 1904 Dikeman (hope I got that right) watercolour. Hope everything sells well, I can only afford to look unfortunately! Thanks again! (Oh, and your comment about the price of tuna steaks is hilarious)

Yes, David, thanks for the link. The Castelli chairs and the Knoll dining table are also FAB!
