StyleNorth reader Karen wrote in to share a miraculous bedroom makeover she recently slam dunked. “I thought you might enjoy seeing it,” she wrote, “since you played a small part in it by recommending Moveline Liquidations!”
“As you can see from the before shot, our master bedroom wasn’t worthy of the name. A couple of weeks ago I headed to Oakville and checked out Moveline. What a great place! I had so much fun and you’re right, there’s no breaking the bank.
“I bought a King size bed frame to get our bed up off the floor ($25) and a rather ugly (but not for long) King headboard for $35 to give our bed some ‘presence’. It was a tight squeeze fitting everything into my car but I was determined to get the goods home and get down to work.”
“First, I covered the art deco-ish metal detail with a piece of pine from Home Depot ($7). At Benjamin Moore I bought a quart of Aura paint (Dune White), along with a good cloth roller ($30). I was told it would probably take two coats but because I didn’t prime it, it took three. Then, all I had to do was put the bed frame in place and mount the headboard to the wall. That was it.
“I was so excited with the end result that I actually took the time to iron the bedskirt! The total cost was $97. Okay, okay, if you include the two new lamps from HomeSense at $70 each the total was $237, so it still didn’t break the bank.
“Thanks Chris. I love StyleNorth and your fabulous finds. P.S. I’m going back to Moveline next weekend to buy the $65 ottoman that Mike recovered but I’m not sure I’m brave enough to do it myself the way he did.”
The one thing Karen didn’t mention is the fabulous mosaic mirror above the bed, which glams up the space and takes it to a whole other level. The mirror didn’t put a dent in Karen’s budget because she made it herself—Karen is Karen Johnston, the artisan behind mosaicworks mirrors.
Amazing makeover Karen! Thanks so much for sharing.

Wow, what a difference! The makeover would be impressive even without the mirror but the mirror really rocks it. Great work!

Nicely done Karen! And the round mirror, beautiful in it’s own right, is perfect with all the straight lines in the other furniture.
