The veterinarian warned us that the medication would make the dog ravenous, we just never imagined he’d start eating the rug. But he did. Quite a bit of it. Now, our bright orange flokati, the one that won us a place in the Apartment Therapy Colour Contest and Toronto Life magazine, has several circular bald spots, like alopecia in orange wool.
And even though we know a cream rug is a stupid alternative for a house with two dogs, we’ve brought another flokati up from the basement to give it a try in the living room. Like the orange rug, this one was also a Craigslist steal, just $80 for 11′ x 7′. Looks good, huh?
There’s still more than enough orange to give the place warmth, especially with the new Noguchi paper lantern I picked up on Friday at Toronto’s Morba ($140).
Mike’s been marveling at how much bigger the space looks with the lighter carpet. We brought in an extra chair for company on Saturday and the room still felt more spacious. And while we know this rug will require more frequent washing, that’s the beauty of flokatis, a trip to the public laundromat with its big 75 lbs front-loader and $10 later we’ve got a rug that looks like new. In the space of a day we’ve gone from Orange Crush to Creamsicle and so far we’re loving it.

Fresh and fabulous! It’s like spring arrived in your space. Hope the dog is off carpet eating for the time being. Tragic about your beautiful orange flokati. But, change is good! (glad the dog is OK too!)

Sorry about the orange rug but the white does a lovely job too. Beautiful room. The couch vignette is sublime.

I think the white looks very fresh. So what are you going to make out of the orange rug?

I think it looks lovely! And..I’m also relieved to see we’re not the only people this sort of thing happens to!!
Five weeks before the new flooring was to be installed in our home, our Molly decided she’d just get a head start on the reno process by tearing up a horribly large, very noticable, chuck of our carpet. Nothing makes you appreciate new flooring more then living with exposed green carpet underlay for 5 weeks!

Hi. New to your blog – love it!
The living room is gorgeous and the tulips are amazing!
Is the paint color on the walls Dior Gray by Benjamin Moore? That’s the color I chose for the walls of my store!
Thanks – I’ll be back.

David, LOL. If it wasn’t so heavy we’d use it as a duvet like they do in Greece.
Pillow Mint, welcome to styleNorth, we’re so happy to have you. The colour is Farrow & Ball, Light Gray, a very warm tone, no blue in it at all.

I love the turquoise table lamps … are they the Craigslist ones you mentioned? They look so expensive … vintage maybe? Anyway … I loves them!
