Celebrating Women Designers

Modern Karibou, an online furniture and accessories retailer based in Ottawa, Ontario, has put together a nice little blog called Velvet and yesterday’s celebration of women designers deserves a shout-out in honour of International Women’s Day, which happens to be today.

Founded late last year by Canadians Carole and Lise, left, Modern Karibou’s mission is to provide “modern design with a Canadian twist” and without having to jump through customs hoops or international currency conversions. Service is available in French and English with all prices in Canadian dollars and free shipping on orders over $100.

Pictured at the top of the page are some of the women designers whose products are carried by Modern Karibou: from left, Nicole Chiala (Amenity), Anki Spets (Area Bedding), Lisa Masterson (Avalisa), Liz Clay (Cici Art Factory), Kristina de Corpo (Amenity), Trine Andersen (ferm Living) and Joanna Notkin (Looolo Textiles).

StyleNorth has featured several cool Canadian women in the past year including Yasmine Louis, Michelle Kosoy, Nathalie Butterfield and Terra Kushner (fluf), Nicole Tarasick, Bev Hisey, Donna Hastings and Carol Sebert (Creative Matters), Michelle Foerster (Surface Collective), Ilona Staples and Karen Johnston (Mosaicworks). Happy Women’s Day!
