Garden stools are ubiquitous nowadays to the point where I’m completely over them. Or so I thought until I passed by Jalan on Toronto’s Queen Street West yesterday where this superb, red lacquer stool cast a spell on me. Made of elm, the scalloped, drum shape has a vaguely Art Deco feel while still being distinctly Asian in spirit. I’d use the piece as a side table, which would add a stunning jolt of colour to any room. And the $250 price tag strikes me as eminently reasonable given the quality and amount of WOW for your money. Truly, I am in love.
