None of the furniture featured in this post is still on the floor at GUFF, one of my favorite Toronto vintage shops. Unlike a lot of its neighbours, GUFF’s stock is priced to move and move it does, right out the door. If you see something you love at GUFF buy it, don’t ponder, don’t “be back,” just buy it, because if you don’t, your piece will be gone.
The selection varies in style from somewhat traditional (see below) to mid-century modern and contemporary, some of it junk, some quite wonderful. The blue chairs in the lead pic were in the window priced at $165 for the pair, the repro Wassily chair was $275 and the sexy, ’70s black marble coffee table was $265.
I knew the faux bamboo chairs wouldn’t last at $140 each and sure enough they were gone a few days later. Mike and I found a replacement top for our dining table at GUFF, a one-of-a-kind, oxidized gold leaf number, below, that was just $200. Jake Keck, owner of nearby Machine Age Modern, was also admiring our find so we grabbed it. When other retailers shop at a store you know it’s good. GUFF is an acronym for Good Used Furniture Finds and the shop almost always lives up to its name.
