Toronto-based textile artist Yasmine Louis is in the spotlight this week courtesy of a limited-edition t-shirt she designed for Friday’s grand re-opening of Frank Gehry’s re-imagined Art Gallery of Ontario (click below).
Louis’s silkscreen art, which marries her own photographic images with text, is completely now. She’s been a favorite at the One of a Kind craft shows for several years, particularly her lines of beautiful cotton velvet and linen pillows. Conceived for the boudoir, the cotton velvet series (12” x 12”, $35) is sexy and fun, while the linen pieces (14” x 14”, $49) are artier, more considered.
Louis’s work is available online through her website and she’ll be front and centre at the Christmas One of a Kind Show November 27 – December 7 at Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre (booth L15).
The Art Gallery of Ontario opens its doors free to the public November 14 – 16 and promises to be the big event in Toronto this weekend. Louis’s run of 250 specially-commissioned women’s t-shirts (design below) will be briefly available at the AGO gift shop.
