Who: Maxine Hemrend, Professional organizer
What: Rented, one-bedroom apartment, 750 sq. ft
Where: Rosedale, Toronto
Maxine’s spacious one-bedroom apartment, decorated with the help of friend Janice Shantz, is a Zen-like retreat overlooking an inner-courtyard in Toronto’s leafy Rosedale neighbourhood. Bright and calm, the space is supremely efficient, reflecting Maxine’s current work as a professional organizer.
One of Maxine’s talents is her ability to reimagine common materials: Indian window shutters were repurposed as swinging kitchen doors and her headboard is a salvaged iron fence fragment that lends an almost spiritual serenity to her bedroom.
Describe your style: Eclectic
Favorite element? The calmness of the decor.
Proudest décor moment? Converting an alcove into a home office that disappears when the workday is done.
Best find? My pine armoire, which I love.
Biggest indulgence? Custom-made chesterfield and Knoll coffee table.
Best advice? Try to keep clutter to a minimum; order breeds serenity.
Dream sources? Decor magazines and friends.

An old friend from high school. We worked for awhile in movies together. Yet fell out of touch. This so looks like her apartment years ago in Toronto, is is the same Janice Shantz who was ahead of her time with organic make up? And makes curry cookies?
